This song proudly ranks in the pantheon of popular music in Japan, but if given a chance, do you think it will manage to squeak into the billboard charts in the West, too, like "I Shall Walk Looking Up" by Kyu Sakamoto did back in the 60's?

A music thread! Awesome. I quite like that song, it's nice and mellow. I will have to look out for their CD next time I'm down at Book Off (I love Book Off). I'm not sure if it would make on the charts in the English speaking world, but you never know. I've been into this guy quite a bit lately. I also think these ladies put modern pop idols to shame.

smithWow, these are real golden oldies! You must be a traditionalist! (chuckles) I, too, have a traditional streak; today's music industry is utter chaos, devoid of any depth of meaning and substance in its productions, a falsehood disguised in the veil of glittering garishness. Book Off must be a golconda of a place for Japanese literature enthusiasts like you. I wish I had its English equivalent here...

It's true, the modern music scene is a complete mess. You need to go underground to hear anything halfway decent these days.
Book Off is pretty awesome. Not only for books, but manga, CDs and movies. The only thing that would come close to an English language version would be online sites like amazon and rakuten. I mean, their English books are cheap, but not super-cheap like Book Off.

A profile page is a really interesting idea. I'll have a look around and see if I can find a plugin for the forum/site software which lets us do that.
I like the idea of a short translation exercise - but I'm worried we might not have enough regular users. It's always a struggle to find time for anything. Maybe we could have a paragraph once per week and see how it goes? Just a random paragraph from the Aozora or Wikipedia.
(Also I took the link to your site down as well)

So I started my Japanese music journey by searching for songs from Ryu Murakami's Popular Hits Of the Shows Era
