www.babelcube.comA company trying to create some kind of system where authors upload books and translators translate them, then the company sells them and pays both the authors and translators royalties based on sales. It's like they are trying to streamline the whole translation process. It's not specifically Japanese and English, but rather pretty much any language pair you can think of. It's ambitious, and I kind of like the concept, but I think the owners are greatly underestimating the amount of time and effort that goes into translating an entire novel. I had a quick look and there are no Japanese books available to translate into English, but there are a ton of English books ready to be translated into Japanese. I'm not expecting much (I've seen sites like this one come and go in the past) but I will be keeping my eye on it.

I get an email roll in from them every so often with a lineup of new books available for translation, but none of them are ever Japanese.
Also, now that I have seen what they are about, I'm not convinced they really offer any significant advantage over just self-publishing your own translations. The site seems to be much more focused on selling copies than producing translations, if that makes sense.
