I have not been on this forum much recently because I'm trying to put together an entry for the JLPP competition. www.jlpp.go.jp/en/competition2/index.htmlAs I have by no means finished, that's where my energy is going. But I hope to participate more actively when that is done. Just thought I'd post as I haven't for a while.

Kurodahan Press will also be opening its annual translation contest in June. The story is ready, and we're talking to prospective jurors now. It will be announced on the Kurodahan Press Facebook page, and on the prize page at www.kurodahan.com/mt/e/khpprize/index.html

Is it even possible with rights and whatnot?

I'm sure I will make another attempt at the Kurodahan contest too.

I'm afraid we can't post the winning translation here.
Any of the submissions would require the permission of the translator and the author's estate, plus which we hope to print the winning translation is Speculative Japan Volume 4.
All of these uses cost us money, by the way... two payments for the contest, and two more for the book publication.

Does this translation look promising? [removed] Nice little passage. Where is it from? I'm afraid we can't post the winning translation here. Any of the submissions would require the permission of the translator and the author's estate, plus which we hope to print the winning translation is Speculative Japan Volume 4. All of these uses cost us money, by the way... two payments for the contest, and two more for the book publication. Oh, that makes sense, and I completely forgot that there were prize payments. I might put something on the front page linking to the contest page (and maybe Speculative Japan) when the winner is announced instead. Come to think of it, would it help if I put a link to the contest page in the sidebar of the front page now?

Oh! I haven't even looked at the contest yet. I suppose I should, though.

Hamish: When the KHP contest is announced, I will be asking everyone to spread the word, and a mention here would be wonderful.
Mike: The English reads great! I haven't seen the source yet, though.

Is this grammatical?
He woke up late in the morning, and without thinking, lying there, hovered his fubsy index finger just off his nostrils. He could feel some nose hairs sticking out. He was totally disgusted by that irritating sensation. So he pinched them, and with as much force as he could muster, plucked them off, and repeated this painful morning exercise many times, until he felt satisfied.

Beginning a sentence with "So" is certainly a grammatical error. Have two phrases beginning with "and" in the last sentence is probably grammatical, but I suspect my writing teacher would have a fit.
Being strictly grammatical isn't always the best way to write English, however.
